Video Workshops

The Big Book of A.A. and the Twelve Steps

The Twelve Steps are not the twelve concepts or the twelve ideas. They are actions. They do not have any real effect on our lives unless we do them. The emphasis in these videos is entirely on doing the steps in the way they are described in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. We encourage you to take your time. It is best to work this program one Step at a time with the help of someone who has first-hand experience with the Twelve Step program. Our thanks to the staff of Plymouth House for their assistance in the preparation of these videos.

What is Recovery?

Presenter: Dale Ryan

So. . . what is recovery? These presentations attempt to give some context for understanding this question. . . and hopefully at least some partial answers. They were originally given as part of a course at Fuller Theological Seminary entitled “Recovery Ministry and Outreach in the Local Church”.

Theological Provocations: Theology As If Recovery Mattered

Presenter: Dale Ryan

These presentations were originally given as part of a course at Fuller Theological Seminary called “Recovery Ministry and Outreach in the Local Church”. Because this material was intended primarily for seminary students interested in recovery ministry it tends to be a little “neck-up” if you know what I mean. Take what works and leave the rest.

It is a difficult combination. My own instinct is that if addiction is an issue, it makes sense to deal with that first. So, I’d suggest getting to some A.A. meetings if you can. There’s a short list at:

      http://www.aagsoindia.org/srilanka.htm

For the spiritual abuse side of things, you might also consider participating in the forum at http://www.spiritualabuse.com. There are several forum members there who have struggling with substance abuse in addition to spiritual abuse.

May your roots sink deeply in the soil of God’s love.

    Juanita:

Your’re article on Childhood abuse is a lifesaver to me. Finally I have the tools to begin to have some serious healing along with the Spirit of Christ. When I apply these to my problems they make perfect sense and describe what is going on inside of me with the three selves. In one day, I have healed more than in the last year.

God bless you and your husband,
    Christ is All

    Larry

    Juanita,
    I love you!

I don’t know what to do next. I am an Adult Child of two Alcoholic parents and I’m really struggling. I also have an eating problem (compulsive overeater) which I attend (sometimes) OA 12-step meetings along with Al-Anon. I’m stuck and tired of doing this. Please help. It just seems like I don’t care about anything anymore since I just turned 60 and I’m feeling like God isn’t there anymore (30+ years as a Christian). I know I haven’t worked the steps and I don’t seem to have any discipline to even try. Is there hope SOMEWHERE? Are there meetings here in Sacramento, California that might help?

  5. GLoria says:

For recovering from child trauma, the text said I need at least one other person or a support group to “even start” healing.
What do I do if I don’t have either? Is there someone or a group available thru this site/ministry?

In this regard, how did Larry (comments, previous) accomplish so much by himself?

Is God sufficient in this need for another person or support group?

    Thank you.

  6. GLoria says:

Just noticed that the last reply was 2009…
    Is anybody home here?
