Unsettled…life beyond the yellow ragged couch by Piet van Waarde

I have been sober for almost 14 years and bought two copies of this wonderful little book when it was first published. Over the years, it has been a great help to me and provided comfort and guidance in my recovery. I recommend it highly!
enjoyed the meditation today. Actually I only half did. Its only a dream to live in a world where I am honest with who I am. I am who people think I am. At home , a husband who thinks only of himself.(fairly accurate) At work a respectable business man who is fair, good to his employees, and talks about Jesus. To our kids, friends, and family other than my wife. Made some mistakes but am fun to be around. Good provider. Sharing thoughts and feelings is to risky. Thanks for listening. I am known but not knowable. I have chosen to hide behind my failures. I must like the charade in some way, but I hate it. Oh well, time to get busy playing the game.
I share this daily online meditation with others and most comment that it is the most on target devotional they have ever read. I am so grateful.

cY9MPM I’m not easily impressed. . . but that’s impressing me!
Just woke up to the fact that upon awakening means when IOpen my eyes. The revelation that I had after reading this morning meditation (upon awakening) I realized that there is only one God and that I MUST be honest, openminded, and willing((HOW) to do whatever it takes todo His wll in my life. See it is 6 am I have not been awake at this hour since I retired from general motors three yrs ago which by the way is my sobriety date 12/08/2009. Ihave been around a AA for thirty years. It isjust now(after reading this mornings meditation that I saw that honesty with Kevin ,another human ,and God that I can finally do a fearless moral inventory. Thanx for the work that you r doin. This is a new iPhone I need to go to my computer your words has fired my imagination that Bill Wilson talked about being rocketed into the fourth dimension. I realize that my grammer needs alot of work, so my plan is to go back tocollege after 53years of living in the dark. T h a n x. Ps. I was babtised in leesburg,Florida last nov. At Clarence snyders retreat. His 3sponsees and Teiresias wives wrote a workbook faith in ourcommunity. You can find this on. Came to believe.org. A true believer in Jesus Christ now. I neew to study to show myself approved. Kevin Bernard Gillis (586) 770-6710. Kbg12082009@gmail.com
I sprinkled the ashes of my brother yesterday in a place he loved to be. He was found dead in his home about a week ago. He was in the last stages of alcoholism. His death certificate says he died of a subdural hematoma. He apparently lost his balance while sitting on his office chair, broke out one side of the sliding glass door and hit his head on his coffee table. He lived alone.
My husband counted 125 empty large rum bottles in his pantry and service porch. I love him very much.
He was a broken, lonely man who continually refused help when offered. He had lost his job three months before his death. It was an alcohol related accident on the job that got him let go of work. The secretary of the company told me her husband had offered to take him to AA with him. He refused saying he didn’t need any help because he didn’t have a problem.
As we met two of his estranged sons at his home to offer support and help in attending to the mess that was left behind I wondered if I had come to his house, seen the severity of his illness and got him into a detox facility, could things have been different?
I now have my personal grieving to do and don’t want to stay in the “what if, if only” zone. I would appreciate your input as I know you are experts in this field. Thank you for the work you do.
@Charlene: When it comes to my addictive, obsessive/compulsive behaviors, I am totally powerless against them: the [addict] has taken himself or herself out of the whole context of what is right or wrong. He or she has lost control, no longer has the power of choice, and is not free to stop. This is where your brother was.
Do not beat yourself up (another addictive behavior); you were also powerless over his addiction. While it is readily apparent that your brother was powerless over his addiction to alcohol, HE didn’t think that his life was unmanageable. And recovery isn’t possible if he was powerless and YOUR life was unmanageable. God loved your brother just the way he was; it is God’s nature to deeply love us whether we succeed or we fail. He will never abandon us. And God loves, YOU, too (and so do I). Go in peace.
I just ordered another copy of Rooted in God’s Love and Soul Repair for my brother who is in prison. He takes Rooted in God’s Love to is “job” in prison every day and they pass it around. He says he has trouble getting it back because there are a few that enjoy the book as much as he does. Praise God that you have been given the words to reach people that so need to know that God values them. I wish I could afford to send more but for now he will have a copy to loan and a copy to keep. These men are not supposed to “trade/loan” items but they do because your book speaks to them in a way that they find comfort. He has a 20 year sentence so I’m sure that I will need more copies as time goes on. If you know of another book that you think would speak to these men, please let me know.
