Hi, I have been in recovery for nearly 4 yrs from alcoholism. I attend AA 2 to 3 times a week and I have just moved to a more Grace based church. I love to worship because that leads me into the presence of God which is where all the healing and love is that I need.I can't agree more that nowadays people are looking for love and healing not performance based religion. God is real and he wants us to be real too. I love AA and I love Jesus.

I have been so thankful that finally there are churches where I feel safe and loved. Many years ago, I prayed that there would be a time when churches
weren't places where we performed or would be required to wear a mask of pretense. After all, it is the truth that sets people free.

I have hopped from one church to another for many years in complete earnest in
trying to find a healthy church--one that didn't make me feel like a second class
citizen. I have always felt like I never measured up and was left at the starting gate while all other 'healthy' people were around the bend towards the finishing line! But I have since learned that I have been a scapegoat and have experienced church abuse by being open, honest, and vulnerable. It is true
that some churches have shot their wounded. No wonder it has taken so long
to heal within a church body.

Yes, I have had to forgive. However, I am so glad that others do not have to
go through the immense pain I did at the hands of God's people. I thank my
God for answering my prayers for a church of honesty and love.

Thank you for your outstanding article.
