Once again this site has an article that just cuts right to the heart of the matter, thank you! I am still sorting through the decades of false teaching which I lived and breathed as truth....this was an excellent example-
"there are many congregations who would have baptized the prodigal son immediately and put him in a discipleship program rather than throwing a party for him. They probably would say: "Now you need to be discipled. Now you must learn how to live the Christian life. Now you must assume a certain kind of persona."
So you mean to tell me there are churches who DON'T think this way? I have never seen one in almost 3 decades. Due to a family military background, have lived in many states and even another country and they all teach that way! But the truth in what you are saying resonates in me and we will continue on our journey here for the real truth in scripture and keep shedding off the traditions of man. I love the verse "You were bought at a price; do not become the slaves of men.." 1 Cor. 7:10
I have been a slave even when Christ had set me free. But I've come to understand that and will not tolerate being in bondage to religion (as opposed to relationhip w/Jesus) any more! Thank you for this great information...more food for thought to set us free!

I am an adult child of an alcoholic. I have believe for years what you say about self. But all the church I go to believe that at the core we are wicked. After all, your heart is deceitfully wicked above all. They have forgotten that Christ atoning sacrafice gave us a NEW HEART. We must now renew our inner man to think and believe in accordance with the atoning works of Christ. I need to network with people that are like minded. Do you have any material thaT CAN HELP ME REINFORCE THIS IN MY LIFE. It is like I have trouble or lack of confidence about what I believe is correctg.

In Christ Love,
