Very Good information. i was asked in my step work what the blind spot meant in the book, and it opened up my mind to the answer by reading your article. By my searching of the truth, and the action of telling the truth has freed me from a lot of worry and fear. Strong Faith in god is the answer to me. as i put in my writing i will never be acceptable to everyone, but i do continue to learn to accept everyone. I just have boundaries today.

With all do respects to all , AA is just not a christian program . It is indeed open to all people from ever belief system worldwide.
our common goal is to stay sober and any way one does it is good.
No human being understands what God is (3rd step} so religion is an abstract private matter. Ive been in AA 33 years { secular } and Iv'e seen many people use Christianity to get sober, without the AA program. I believe it's the lack of Christian values and the cult structure of AA that fails most Christian AA members.

First Debbie, I would like to say that I am excited for you and your recovery. Remember to be kind to yourself. We did not get where we are today overnight. God's grace is sufficient and He is faithful to see us through. I have found for myself that recovery is much like peeling and onion...one layer at a time. And God is so gracious that He does not reveal all at one time, it is a process. Many blessings to you.

Thank you for this article. I was able to relate so much to this and a couple of others. I have been a born again believer for about 20 years now and in the past 2-3 years the Lord has been taking me through a time of recovery from religion. I have 2 sons who struggle with addiction, one is in a treatment program currently the other is actively using. My son who is in recovery often told me that my faith had become my addiction. Until the past couple of years I was in denial. I know for myself that is a fact. I am now in recovery....life recovery I say and the twelve steps have been a tool for me to use as I walk through this time of healing and being set free. I am thankful to God for the grace and mercy He has poured upon me to even begin this journey. I know that through Him all things are possible.

I found this to be an article of truth. I am only still in step one and knowing the serenity prayer. 'Change the things I can' speak to me of asking God to remove the roadblocks of self-pity, anger, resentment, unforgiveness etc. from my heart so I may be free to love as He loves. If I don't do this 'work' I cannot possibly fulfil the works He has planned for me. I must change with His help and guidance. I must be willing to accept the things I need to change with His help and power and I must trust His promise that He who begun the work will complete it. I cannot rid myself of self pity or any character defect, I can be willing to allow Him to do it and trust that He has promised to, my work is in recognising when I am being full of pity and confess it and hand it over to Him and replace it with His will. I believe that having the structure of the steps will help me to get to the root of the problems in me and by digging up the root and giving it to God will help me to progress in my spiritual walk.
