This is the kind of teaching that I've been looking for about the Twelve Steps!
I've been to a AA meeting for a class assignment but knew that there must be something more to the principles that I could also apply to my personal life, and here it is!

I have been in a recovery community for a few years, now, and am finally ready to think about commiting to a 12 step group. I have been in meetings using 12-step material, but never started at the beginning. Until I told my group that I will commit myself to the group and to the process, I did not really own my stuff. God has been working in me to make me ready for this moment. You see, I have been hanging out with people in recovery, learning from them wonderful principles and how I can apply them, discovering that my previous definition of honesty was s-o-o-o-o-o lame, but never really willing to fully jump into the pool with them. I THOUGHT I had done step 1. I really did. And I had--in my head. God has been answering my prayer all this time, working in me to move me out of my head and into my heart! Maybe we should have pre-12-step groups for people like me (or maybe, just maybe, God works in His own way and His own time. Thank you for leading the way!

As of today, I am making this my homepage! I need to start with this kind of focus every day, and I am excited to challenge myself to this healthy priority of processing 12 step thinking first in my online experience each day!

Thanks for all your work to support people wanting to connect with God in this healthy manner!

Once again thank you for these information and especially for the guideline for our spiritual journey to know and to live God's love.
Actually I do have some cases in my courier where I will use these 12 steps in order to help them in searching the Truth that is Jesus' love that for our sake to took on Himself the burden of sin.
I would like to make some addition for the passage where it says. "Now we must learn to admit the truth. The Bible puts a high value on telling the truth: “Each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor” (Ephesians 4:25). That is a good point, but actually before Saint Paul stated that, we read from the Book of Genesis from the first story of human beings, the lack of telling the truth. When God asked Adam where you have been from Chapter 3, Adam tried to hide himself, and when God asked him have ate the forbidden fruit, instead of telling the truth, he said, "The woman that you gave me, she gave me to eat". (Gen 3.12)

Once again thank you and may God bless you.

My wife and I have now led a 12 step Christ based recovery group in Livonia Michigan for a few years now and I have been aided greatly at times by NACR. Thankyou so much for your faithfulness. In times like these when tough times seem to ramp up the powerlessness in all of us, we all need to seek God together to gain the freedom we must have in order to follow him. Keep up the good work.....Ted and Nita Goulet

I, too, can say, I love this site!!! I am just starting the 12 Step program, and this has brought welcomed clarity to what the first part of Step One is all about. I appreciate also your application to, not only addictive substances, but also behaviors and thought patterns...and especially as you interject God's wisdom from His Word. So thank you so much for the richness of this site. I plan to take full advantage of its resources as I make my journey through the Steps.

I love this site!!! I am in a 12 step fellowship (NA) and am currently working Step 6. I found the breakdown of Step 6 on this site extremely enlightening and helpful. I plan to use this site to enhance my journey with God and I believe that as long as I work these steps, my life will only get better. Thank you for posting this information. Thank you very much.
There is one thing I would like to bring to your attention....in the interest of accuracy about Narcotics Anonymous. You state that in the 1st Step of NA, we use "addictive substances" as a substitute for alcohol. That is not correct. What we actually say is that "We admitted that we were powerless over our addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable."
The use of the word addiction, we believe, is a more complete term. Yes, NA does focus it's primary attention on the stopping of using mood altering, mind changing chemicals (including alcohol) but our application of the 12 steps is designed to treat the entire person...to be life changing if you will. And to say that we are powerless over addictive substances, I think, diminishes the scope and impact of what NA is about. (I am not a spokesman for NA...this is my personal observation.)
I do not want to split hairs about terminology, however, I believe that God has given the world 12 step recovery as a means to bring many back to Him and I think that "narrowing the spotlight" to a single term might prevent someone from finding that path. I realise that it is God who ultimately heals us but I believe also that we need to be the best stewards of his tools as possible. I say this with no malice in my heart....only love for God, and for the suffering addict, who, without programs like this would otherwise be hopeless.
Again, I thank you for this information. I intend to refer to it as I continue to work the steps and grow in my recovery. I also intend to share it with my church with the hope that we can begin this journey as a body.
God bless you all.
